Chinatown Gate
S King St & 5th Ave S
Seattle, WA 98104

The Chinatown Gate is located in the International district on South King Street and 5th avenue. The archway or paifang is a traditional Chinese archway that symbolizes Chinese culture and the entrance to Seattle's Chinatown. It stands 45 feet tall and was officially unveiled to the public in February of 2008.

In China, the raising of a paifang was a ceremonious event performed for one of three purposes. They memorialize and recognized the achievements of important people, were built in honor of widows who remained loyal to there husband until death, and served as the main entrance or gateway to a community. Today, archways stand as a symbol of Chinese culture and are commonly built in Chinatowns across the world.
