The First Starbucks
1912 Pike Place
Seattle, WA 98101
(206) 448-8762

The first Starbuck originally opened on the corner of Virginia and Pike Place in 1971. In 1977 it was moved to its current location. What started in pike place market grew into well over 16,000 stores in more than 50 countries today.

At this location you won’t see the typical lit up Starbucks sign. This sign looks like it did in the seventies. Market regulation prohibit back lit signs and require that historic signs be preserved. Another unique feature is that they still use the original brown logo with the bear breasted siren.

Aside from the history and the street performers there’s not much more to the store. It can get extremely crowded and there is no seating inside. It’s basically just a neat tourist attraction with long wait times.
